Louisiana State Police are in the process of investigating a crash that left one person dead and four others injured. This incident occurred in Calcasieu Parish on July 16. While this event may have happened on the other side of the state, the lessons that can be learned from it can benefit anyone who has similarly suffered personal injury or loss.
According to reports, at approximately 6:30 p.m., the driver of a semitrailer was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 when, for reasons unknown, he crossed the median and struck two westbound vehicles. The driver of a pickup -- a 24-year-old male -- suffered moderate injuries in the crash and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The driver of an SUV -- a 54-year-old male -- died in the wreck. The driver of the semitrailer and his two young children also suffered injuries and were transported to a medical facility for care.
Authorities are not sure what caused the truck driver to leave his lane of traffic. They are awaiting toxicology results to determine if drugs and/or alcohol played a role in this crash. Charges are said to be pending in this case.
