Driving after consuming impairing substances is never recommended and can result in one being arrested if caught by police. Recently, law enforcement officers in Louisiana arrested two individuals for allegedly driving while intoxicated. If either ends up being convicted, the consequences may be significant.
According to reports, over the last week, authorities arrested at least two individuals for DWI. One -- a 38-year-old male -- was charged with reckless operation, first-offense DWI, license plate and insurance violations, failure to control his vehicle and misrepresentation during the booking process. This individual was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish prison. It is unclear if he has been released or when his case will be heard in court.
The second individual -- a 26-year-old female -- was also arrested on a first-offense DWI, as well as careless operation. She, too, was processed and booked. No further information has been released concerning her case.
The state of Louisiana does not treat driving while intoxicated cases lightly. Potential penalties include fines and jail time -- among various others -- that could negatively impact a person's life in several ways. The accused have every right to defend themselves and fight the charges, or, if it is thought a better approach, they may also seek plea agreements or alternative sentencing. The good news is, they do not have to figure all this out on their own. With the assistance of an experienced criminal defense attorney, these individuals can address the criminal and administrative issues at hand and fight for the best possible outcomes.
