There is nothing easy about ending a marriage. It will hurt in a lot of ways. However, doing it when one is older may come at a higher price. He claims he has stuck with her for the child, but now he is wondering if he should continue sticking it out or pull the plug because he is unhappy.
His concern about ending the marriage has much to do with finances. When in retirement, money can be tight. Getting a divorce will not help that.
At the end of the day, money should not be the only thing considered when thinking about divorce. Happiness in life matters, as well. Yes, going through a gray divorce is likely to impact one's financial position, but living with a little less in order to be free of a relationship that makes one unhappy may be worth it.
