Because motor vehicles are such an integral part of people's lives, it may be easy to forget how much damage an accident can cause. However, because of how easy an accident can occur and the amount of harm one can inflict, it is imperative that all drivers remain vigilant at all times. Unfortunately, a recent car accident in Louisiana left two people dead.
The incident happened around 4:15 p.m. on a day in early May. According to reports, a 48-year-old woman was driving a sedan when it was struck by a vehicle headed south on a Louisiana road. Police say the second vehicle was driven by a 78-year-old man.
Reports indicate that the woman driving and a 38-year-old passenger in the backseat of her vehicle died as a result of injuries suffered in the collision. Police reports indicate that the former was wearing her seat belt. The driver and a passenger in the second vehicle were also taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries.
Unfortunately, what likely started as a typical drive turned into tragedy for two people, leaving their families to cope with an unexpected loss as a result of what appears to have been a preventable car accident. While anyone who loses a family member in such an unexpected manner must cope with the emotional consequences of their loss, many are also left to face significant financial repercussions as well. When it is believed that harm was the result of another's negligence -- such as at the hands of reckless drivers -- surviving family members may choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit. If successfully presented, they could receive a financial award that will help ensure that they are able to meet their financial responsibilities.
