On Tuesday, June 23, Louisiana State Police were called to the scene of an accident that occurred on Scenic Highway. One person was hurt, and another was killed in the car crash. The driver believed responsible is facing criminal charges for the incident.
According to reports, at approximately 7:30 a.m., the driver of a box truck -- a 27-year-old female -- was operating her vehicle southbound on the highway when she hit a vehicle that had stalled in the lane. The box truck smashed into the back of the car, killing the 11-year-old boy who was sitting in the back seat. The driver of the car was not restrained and suffered injuries in the wreck. This individual was transported to a medical center for the treatment of unspecified injuries.
The driver of the truck was also hurt in the collision. She, too, had to be taken to a hospital for care. After being released, she was placed in police custody and charged with careless operation, negligent injuring and negligent homicide. Investigators do not believe impairment was a factor in this case.
Accidents like this one cause a lot of hurt, emotionally, physically and financially. According to Louisiana laws, the surviving victim along with the surviving family members of the deceased may be entitled to seek compensation for their losses through legal means. To do this, personal injury and wrongful death claims need to be filed in civil court against the driver deemed responsible for the car crash and/or her employer. Maximum relief may be achieved throughout court negotiations, but if such negotiations prove unsuccessful, litigation may be appropriate.
